Dyaryologue:
Journalism Summit
Dyaryologue: Journalism Summit is an annual campus journalism seminar offering crash courses on journalism skills to Filipino high school students and school paper advisers.
The summit features workshops on newswriting, feature writing, opinion writing and other special topics determined every year, such as fact-checking and journalism ethics. It gathers esteemed journalist professionals from established media organizations.
Historically UJP-UP’s largest flagship event, the summit consistently drew more than 100 participants in its earlier one-day iterations. Since 2025, however, Dyaryologue has expanded into a two-day event, significantly increasing its reach and attracting over 600 participants. Its most recent edition, Dyaryologue 2026, welcomed more than 400 participants.
Break Free
Break Free is a month-long annual protest held every November to commemorate the Ampatuan Massacre — one of the world’s deadliest single attacks on journalists — and to call for the end of the culture of impunity in the Philippines. It also raises awareness on pertinent media and national issues.
The event is led by the Break Free Alliance convened by UJP-UP, and is composed of UP Solidaridad, UP Journalism Club, UP College of Media and Communication Student Council and the University Student Council. These formations deliver a lineup of events every November.

Agapay
Agapay is a month-long donation drive held every September in celebration of the organization’s anniversary. Guided by UJP-UP’s pro-student and pro-masses ideals, the initiative mobilizes members, alumni and its audiences to raise financial support for a chosen beneficiary each year. Beneficiaries include vulnerable communities and grassroots organizations whose work aligns with the Union’s advocacies.
Basic Masses Integration
With a commitment to advocacy journalism, UJP-UP conducts a Basic Masses Integration at least once a year to immerse members in the realities faced by marginalized and vulnerable communities. It allows members to engage directly with people from different sectors and listen to their experiences, with the broader goal of allowing their social conditions to shape the stories we tell.
Since the revival of Tambuli, UJP-UP’s publication arm, the Union’s members have also published outputs that amplify the calls of these communities.
Media Report
Media Report is UJP-UP’s media monitoring initiative that examines pressing issues in Philippine media. The event brings together journalists, media practitioners, academics, student publications and other media organizations in panel discussions and lectures that fosters critical engagement with issues such as press freedom, media ethics, disinformation and the campus press, among others.
UJP 37’s iteration of the event carried the theme Under Pressure: Journalism in the Age of Disinformation and Eroding Public Trust in the Press and gathered over 70 attendees, composed of high school and college students, as well as professors. It also featured a documentary viewing of Silent Spaces, which tells the story of Ka Dan, a political prisoner during the Marcos Sr. regime, followed by a talk with members of the Samahan ng mga Ex-Detainees Laban sa Detensyon at Aresto (SELDA).
