Sigla Magazine is the student publication of the UP College of Home Economics (CHE). After its attempt at revival last year, the publication’s recognition in the college is “floating” in status, according to its current editor-in-chief John Benedick Flores.
The uncertainty in its recognition stems from a pending ethics case filed by the Student Relations Office (SRO) in 2025, Flores said. Some time before the filing of the case, the publication had already been discouraged from pursuing recognition and restricted from covering mobilizations, as stated in Sigla’s December 2025 statement.
Sigla was initially recognized as an organization in 2022, but had experienced complications in its recognition status since then, according to Flores.
As soon as the case is resolved, Flores said that the current editorial board would lobby for the publication’s revival and negotiate with the college administration regarding funding, space and recognition. Prior to its inactivity, Sigla had more than 50 members, whom the editorial board has kept in touch with for when they would re-attempt its revival.
“Right after na magkaroon ng issue sa kolehiyo, bumaba talaga ‘yung student participation sa kolehiyo namin at kasama na dun ay nanahimik kami bilang publikasyon. […] I think isang problema doon ay hindi na rin nalalaman ng mga estudyante ‘yung mga impormasyon na nangyayari sa kolehiyo namin,” Flores said.
