The UP Parser is the official student publication of the Department of Computer Science (DCS). While the publication is recognized at the department level, it has not been recognized by the College of Engineering (ENGG).
With only 15 members, the publication usually covers department- and college-wide events, university-wide issues and general science and technology forums.
Following its recent revival, Parser continues to face challenges with recruitment and a lack of manpower. Outgoing editor-in-chief Stephen Gonda attributes this to CS students’ lack of interest in being part of a student publication.
“The intersection of CS students and students who have an inclination to publications is scarce,” Gonda said. “[However], the publication has performed steps on improving visibility and providing tasks which could engage all types of students within the field.”
The publication also currently has no budget and relies only on sponsorships and the members’ resources to fund the newsroom’s activities.
